What is the Appeal of Handmade Beaded Jewelry?

People are now starting to ask about the appeal of handmade beaded jewelry. What is so great about it that makes it so expensive? For example, if I went to a jewelry store and bought a random necklace for two grand, then I went out and found the exact one except that it was handmade, it would cost three times as much. That is absolutely ridiculous and does not make sense to me. The reasoning behind this, I am told, is that people think that there is higher quality in these handmade pieces. That is a complete lie because machines are better.
